Toronto Maple Leafs at Montreal Canadiens (00:00 GMT on Sunday)

The Toronto Maple Leafs are warming up for their first-round play-off duel against the Boston Bruins while the Montreal Canadiens are just out to end the regular season on a bright note after failing in their wildcard bid. The Maple Leafs (46-28-7, 99 points) have dropped two in a row and four of their last five games so they need to pick up this win to boost their confidence ahead of their best-of-seven duel against the Bruins. Mitch Marner, John Tavares, Morgan Rielly and Auston Matthews will lead Toronto in the regular-season finale while Frederik Andersen will man the goal. The Canadiens (43-30-8, 94 points), meanwhile, were formally eliminated from play-off contention on Friday after the Columbus Blue Jackets edged the New York Rangers 3-2 in a shootout to clinch the final post-season berth. Montreal’s play-off hopes took a severe blow on Thursday following their 2-1 loss at Washington. Max Domi, Tomas Tatar, Phillip Danault and Brendan Gallagher will lead Montreal in this match-up. The Maple Leafs won their three previous meetings against the Canadiens this season. We expect a sweep for Toronto.

New York Islanders at Washington Capitals (00:00 BST on Sunday)

The Washington Capitals and New York Islanders are both gearing u

p for their respective first-round play-off series. The Capitals (48-25-8, 104 points) have secured the Metropolitan Division title and will face either Pittsburgh or Carolina  in the first round. The defending Stanley Cup champions are in hight spirits having won four of their last five games. They are coming off a 2-1 home win over Montreal on Thursday –  a result that effectively ended their opponents’ play-off ambitions. Leading the Capitals in this contest are league top goal scorer Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov and John Carlson. The Islanders (47-27-7, 101 points) are currently ranked second to the Capitals in the conference but the Pittsburgh Penguins (44-26-11, 99 points) can still overtake them and seize a home-ice advantage in their best-of-seven duel. There’s also a possibility that New York will play Carolina in the first round if the Hurricanes (45-29-7, 97 points) win their final assignment and the Penguins falter. Expected to lead the Islanders in this vital duel are Mathew Barzal, Josh Bailey, Anders Lee and Brock Nelson, who scored in regulation and in the shootout to propel the team to a 2-1 win over Florida on Thursday. Washington beat New York twice in their three previous meetings this season. Adding drama to this contest is the fact that the Islanders are now coached by Barry Trotz, who steered the Capitals to their maiden Stanley Cup triumph last season. We expect the Capitals to end the season with another victory.
